It's 11:06pm right now. The truck is packed strategically, last lists are made - (turn the air conditioner off in the morning, put the passports in the glovebox) - and first thing in the morning we will begin a very exciting journey to Quebec; my dad's favorite kind of vacation - bear hunting!
It was a whirlwind of a day, and a week really! So many things to do before leaving the homestead, and in the midst of it this afternoon, when it seemed like we would never get everything done, I had to ask myself what really mattered. In all of my task-orientedness, I often get caught up in the details and forget to enjoy life for what it is. It's summertime, I just made my first bouquet of the season, I've become reacquainted with some beautiful people this week, spent a day with the family I help weekly drinking in the beauty and excitement of childhood, I accomplished things for work. So many things happened and I'm not even sure I had time to really appreciate them.
A while ago, a member of the family I help, Jeanne, bought me a journal for bible reading and I was reminded how much journaling helps me to reflect and actualize things that are happening in my life. It's such an incredible little habit that I think, if we embrace, will add boatloads of joy to our lives and relieve just as much stress. I remember my beautiful, extraverted friend, Travis, saying once that his way of cherishing people was to make sure he took time to just think about them, sitting in bed at night, thinking about who they are and what they need, and what they mean to him. It's these little things that help us to really appreciate life. So, I thought I'd share a few tips that help me to cherish the things and people in my life.
Happy Healthy Habits
1. Reflect Everyday
Simply take time to think about your day. What happened? What was happy? Savor those things. What was frustrating? Put them to rest. Who did you encounter? Think about that person.
2. Smile At Your Blessings
Take time to relish in the joys of your day. What really made you happy? Name 10 things that you are thankful for (You can do this every day!). Think about things like the season, the wind, a warm shower.
3. Express Thankfulness
Last, but one of the most important. This is the action step - the place where you act on the things that happened today. Saying thank-you in your heart will help you to build an appreciation and love for the thing you are thinking about. Sending a message to someone who made an impression on you will strengthen the friendship.
These steps will determine your outlook tomorrow and the plans and choices you make. They will help you to keep perspective on life when you can be consumed with tasks!
This is a challenge to me as much as it is to you!
Hey, I am really thankful for you. Thank-you for your support. For sharing the same desires as I. You are a community to me. A very meaningful one.
Goodnight.
